MADISON, Wis. – Team USA looks to continue its momentum on Tuesday, taking on Finland in the second of three preliminary-round games. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Cassie Hall led Team USA with two goals and an assist, as the U.S. opened the 2022 Under-18 Women's World Championship with a 6-1 victory over Sweden. Laila Edwards (1G, 2A) and Sydney Morrow (3A) also recorded three points as nine players found their way on the scoresheet. Annelies Bergmann stopped 20 of 21 shots on net as the U.S. moved to 1-0 in preliminary-round play.
The U.S. takes the ice for its second of three preliminary-round games, facing off against Finland at LaBahn Arena. The tilt marks just the fourth all-time meeting between the two sides at an Under-18 Women's World Championship. The U.S. won its last meeting, 4-1, in a preliminary-round bout on December 26, 2019.
For the 14th consecutive U18 WWC, the United States is opening the preliminary round with back-to-back games. Team USA has never lost the back end of a back-to-back in the preliminary round.
Nine players tallied at least one point in the U.S.' 6-1 victory over Sweden, with five recording a multi-point night. Cassie Hall (2G, 1A), Laila Edwards (1G, 2A), and Sydney Morrow (3A) all posted three points, tying for most points scored in the entire tournament.
Team USA boasts a 38-2 all-time record in the preliminary round of the U18 WWC. The lone losses came in 2020 and 2017, both to Canada. The U.S. has gone a perfect 3-0 in the prelims 11 of 13 years.
