MADISON, Wis. – Team USA will play for the gold medal in the 2022 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship on Monday at LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wisconsin. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on NHL Network.
Following a 3-2 victory over Sweden in the semifinal round, the U.S. will face Canada with the gold medal on the line. This marks the second meeting of the tournament for these two teams. They met on June 9 in the final preliminary round game, with the U.S. coming out on top, 7-0. It marked the U.S.'s first shutout of Canada in U18 Women's World Championship play
Grace Dwyer (Wynnewood, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal with 6:31 to play as the U.S. came from behind in the final period to defeat Sweden, 3-2, and advance to the Gold Medal Game at the 2022 Under-18 Women’s World Championship. Team USA tallied two unanswered goals in the third to complete the comeback victory, outshooting Sweden 53-24 in the winning effort.
Team USA boasts an 8-5 all-time record in the gold medal game at U18 Women's World Championship and has made the gold medal game in every U18WWC in history. The U.S. has faced Canada 12 times in the final game, winning seven of them.
In 20 games against Canada at the U18 WWC, the U.S. holds a 13-7 record. Team USA holds a 6-2 record against their rival in the last eight games, including wins in the 2020 and 2017 gold medal games. Most recently, the U.S. topped Canada, 7-0, in the final preliminary round game.
