Brock Faber Named Captain of U.S. National Junior Team

Thomas Bordeleau and Landon Slaggert to serve as alternate captains

EDMONTON, Alberta – Defenseman Brock Faber (Maple Grove, Minn./University of Minnesota) has been named captain of the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team it was announced today by USA Hockey.

In addition, forwards Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas/San Jose Sharks), and Landon Slaggert (South Bend, Ind./University of Notre Dame) were named alternate captains. Faber and Slaggert were members of the gold medal-winning 2021 U.S. National Junior Team.

“You don’t make it through this tournament if everyone doesn’t lead,” said head coach Nate Leaman (East Greenwich, R.I./Providence College). “At some point, every guy will be called upon to lead in their way, especially if we want to win gold.”

Team USA will begin play in the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship on Tuesday (Aug. 9) in Edmonton, Alberta, against Germany. Puck drop is set for 10:00 p.m. ET and can be seen live on NHL Network.

ABOUT FABER

Faber wrapped up his second season at the University of Minnesota this past season, after playing two seasons at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. In addition to his gold-medal winning performance at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship last season, Faber represented Team USA at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. He was also a member of the Big Ten champion Gopher squad in the 2020-21 season and was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season. A second-round selection by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2020 NHL Draft, Faber played youth hockey with the Minnesota Blades organization.

ABOUT BORDELEAU

Bordeleau spent two seasons with the University of Michigan (2020-22) before he turned pro in the San Jose Shark’s organization last season. This past May, Bordeleau skated for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Prior to Michigan, Bordeleau spent two seasons with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the second round after his U18 year. Named Big Ten Rookie of the Year for the 2020-21 season, Bordeleau also helped the University of Michigan to a Big Ten championship the following year. In his eight games spent at the NHL level, he has tallied five assists, while adding three assists in two AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda.

ABOUT SLAGGERT

Slaggert finished his sophomore season with the University of Notre Dame, where his father, Andy, coached his 29th season with the Fighting Irish as the associate head coach. Slaggert was a member of the gold medal-winning 2021 U.S. National Junior Team. Slaggert previously played two seasons with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program prior to being selected in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. The South Bend, Ind. native played youth hockey for the Chicago Mission, where he won two championships including the 2018 Chipotle-USA Hockey 16U National Championship and the 2017 Chipotle-USA Hockey 14U National Championship.
