Germany Bests Switzerland

Germany took on Switzerland this afternoon to open the day, with each team seeking its first win of the tournament. The Swiss struck first with a shorthanded goal, but Germany quickly responded with two goals in just over a minute. Switzerland then tied it up, and the back-and-forth scoring continued throughout the game. It was finally Germany’s Tim Schütz who scored a powerplay goal halfway through the third that capped off scoring. With a 5-4 win, the Germans improved their record to 1-0-0-2, while the Swiss fell to 0-0-0-3.

Lennart Neisse had his first start of the tournament for Germany and stopped 40 of the 44 shots he faced. Switzerland’s William McNutt saw his third game of action, stopping 35 of 39 shots.

Czechia Defeats Slovakia

Game two was between Slovakia and Czechia. Czechia scored the lone goal of the first period, followed by two more in the second, before Slovakia got themselves on the board just before the first 40 minutes of play concluded. But that would be the Slovaks only goal of the night, as Czechia found the back of the net four times in the third to skate away with a 7-1 win, improving their tournament record to 2-0-0-0.

David Pohanka made a tournament-high 47 saves for Slovakia, while Adam Ebenstreit had 38 for Czechia. The Czechs outshot Slovakia, 54-39.
