U.S. Set For Third Preliminary WWC Game

HERNING, Denmark – The U.S. (2-0-0-0) continues its preliminary round slate on Monday, with the first of back-to-back games, facing off against Switzerland (1-0-0-1) at the 2022 IIHF Women’s World Championship. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. local time, 1 p.m. ET, and can be viewed live on NHL Network. 

TODAY’S MATCHUP

Today's matchup against Switzerland marks the third of four preliminary-round games for Team USA, after defeating Finland, 6-1, in its second prelim game of the championship on Saturday. The U.S. currently sits at 2-0-0-0 in Group A, having outscored its opponents 16 to 1 through two games.

LAST TIME OUT

In the second preliminary round game of Women's Worlds, Team USA toppled Finland, 6-1. Five different players tallied goals, while 10 players had at least a point in the victory. Forward Amanda Kessel led the U.S. with four points (2G, 2A) as Jincy Dunne recorded her first U.S. Women's National Team goal. Hannah BrandtHannah BilkaAbby Roque and Kendall Coyne Schofield all tallied multi-point games. The U.S. outshot Finland 72-16, as goaltender Maddie Rooney recorded 15 saves in the victory.

AGAINST SWITZERLAND...

Team USA holds a perfect 9-0-0-0 record all-time against Switzerland at the WWC, having won every matchup between the two teams at the tournament. The U.S. holds a four-game shutout streak against the Swiss dating back to the second period of a 7-1 preliminary-round meeting at the 2008 Women's World Championship.

OFFENSIVE MINDED

Eighteen of the 20 Team USA skaters have tallied at least a point in the first two games of the tournament, with 11 of those 18 having recorded a goal. The U.S. is outshooting its opponents a combined 136-22 and is four for 11 on the power play, a 36% success rate, good for second-best in the tournament.
