Today's meeting between the U.S. and Canada marks the fourth game of the 2022-23 Rivalry Series and the first meeting since Nov. 20. The U.S. currently leads the series 3-0, and with a win today, can clinch the series title. Team USA won game one, 4-3, in a shootout, game two, 2-1, and game three, 4-2.
In front of a record 14,551 fans at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Wash., Team USA topped Canada, 4-2, behind a three-point night from Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho). Just 40 seconds into the game, Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, Ill.) gave the U.S. an early 1-0 lead. After Canada tied the game, Abby Roque (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) converted a 3-on-1 to go up 2-1. A Knight breakaway goal in the second put the U.S. on top for good, and a third-period score put the game away for the 4-2 final. Nicole Hensley (Lakewood, Colo.) recorded 22 saves in the winning effort.
Throughout the first three games of the 2022-23 Rivalry Series, forward Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) has recorded seven points (four goals, three assists), averaging 2.3 points per game. Knight posted the game-winning shootout goal in game one and the game-winning tally in game three.
Team USA's 4-2 victory on Nov. 20 in Seattle, Wash., marks the first win on U.S. soil since Feb. 8, 2020 when the U.S. topped Canada, 4-3 in overtime of the final game of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series.
For the first time in Rivalry Series history, the U.S. and Canada will face off in the greater Las Vegas area, dropping the puck at The Dollar Loan Center.
