GAMEDAY: Game Five of Rivalry Series Set For Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – Team USA takes the ice for game five of the 2022-23 Rivalry Series on Monday, as the U.S. Women’s National Team takes on Canada at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. PT and can be viewed live on NHL Network.

Today's Matchup

Today's meeting between the U.S. and Canada marks the fifth game of the 2022-23 Rivalry Series and the final meeting of the series in the U.S. Team USA currently leads the series three games to one and can clinch the series title with a win today. Team USA won game one, 4-3, in a shootout, game two, 2-1, and game three, 4-2, Canada won game four, 2-3.

Last Time Out

A late third-period goal by Canada's Sarah Nurse proved to be the difference maker as Canada took game five of the Rivalry Series, 3-2Amanda Kessel opened the scoring late in the first off a tight 2-on-1 opportunity to open a 1-0 lead. Canada responded in the middle frame with two goals of its own, going up 2-1. Hilary Knight tied the game in the third, but Nurse's goal put Team Canada over the top. Maddie Rooney made 13 saves in net.

In The Rivalry Series

The U.S. holds a 6-2-1-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record over Canada all time in the Rivalry Series. 

Razor-Thin Margin

With the exception of game four, all games of the Rivalry Series have been decided by one score, with the deciding tally coming in either the third period or the shootout. 

California Connection

Defender Cayla Barnes is the only member of the roster who is from Southern California, Eastvale, Calif., just an hour drive from Crypto.com Arena. Barnes played her 14U hockey for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings.

Hollywood Hockey

For the first time in Rivalry Series history, the U.S. and Canada will face off in Los Angeles, Calif. at Crypto.com Arena. It marks the second time the Rivalry Series visited California, following a Feb. 8, 2020 meeting at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
