GAME DAY: Team USA Wraps WWC Preliminary Play Against Canada

BRAMPTON, Ont. – The U.S. Women’s National Team wraps up preliminary round play at the IIHF Women’s World Championship with a date against Canada at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario on Monday. 

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be viewed live on NHL Network. 

TODAY'S MATCH UP

Today's meeting against Canada marks the final preliminary-round game for Team USA at the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship. The U.S. enters the game undefeated in prelim play, having defeated Japan, Switzerland and Czechia. The winner of today's game will win Group A and take the top overall seed heading into the playoff rounds. 

AGAINST CANADA...

Today's game is the 33rd overall Women's Worlds meeting with Canada. The U.S. holds a 12-4-6-10 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against the Canadians in championship play. The U.S. is 5-1 in the last six prelim games against Canada.

LAST TIME AGAINST CANADA

The U.S. last met Canada in Women's Worlds play in the gold medal game of the 2022 Championship. Despite heavy offensive pressure in the third period, Team USA fell, 2-1, taking home the silver. 

HARVEY THE OFFENSIVE DEFENDER 

Through three games, defender Caroline Harvey (Salem, N.H.) has six points (2G, 4A), including the game-winning goal against Switzerland on April 7. Harvey leads tournament defenders in total points and is tied for second overall in points. 

TEAM USA'S POWER PLAY HITTING 50 PERCENT 

Through three games, Team USA's power play is converting 50 percent of the time, the highest clip of any team in the tournament. Of eight extra-skater opportunities, the U.S. has scored four times. Caroline Harvey (Salem, N.H.) is responsible for half of Team USA's power-play goals, with two.
