Kessel opened the scoring for the U.S. with a power-play goal with 55.3 seconds remaining in the first period when she buried a rebound opportunity past Sandra Abstreiter. Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.), celebrating her 29th birthday, got the play started by firing a pass to Caroline Harvey (Salem, N.H.) who ripped on a shot on net.

Kessel now has a goal in three of her past four games, while Harvey has at least one assist in four of the United States five games and leads U.S. defenders with six assists overall in the tournament.

Bilka extended the U.S. lead to 2-0 by notching a power-play goal of her own with 7:21 left in the second period, firing home a one-timer from the right circle following a crisp feed from Haley Winn (Rochester, N.Y.) after Abby Roque (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) won a faceoff. Bilkahas at least a point in all five U.S. games.

Murphy then made it 3-0 with a short-handed goal at 12:04 remaining in the game when she knocked in her own rebound on a second effort while crashing the net. Hayley Scamurra (Getzville, N.Y.) and Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.) earned assists on the play for their first points of the tournament.

Aerin Frankel (Chappaqua, N.Y.) made 18 saves to earn the shutout for Team USA in goal, including 10 in the second period, for her first shutout as a member of the Women’s National Team. Frankel made a clutch, point-blank save with 4:54 remaining in the second period to keep the U.S. in front, 2-0, through two periods. 

Team USA led 1-0 after the first period and outshot Germany 20-2 to begin the game. German netminder Sandra Abstreiter made 49 saves on 52 shots.
