GAME DAY | U.S. Faces Canada in Final Preliminary Round Game Today

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will take on Canada here today in its final preliminary round game of the World Para Ice Hockey Championship. Puck drop is set for 9:00 p.m. ET at the Moose Jaw Events Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The game will be streamed live on the Paralympics YouTube and Facebook.

Both teams enter this game with 2-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) records in preliminary round play, with the winner clinching the top seed in Group A heading into quarterfinals. The U.S. won 9-0 against Korea yesterday after beating Czechia 7-1 on Monday. Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) tallied a hat trick and was named U.S. Player of the Game, while Griffin LaMarre (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded a shutout in his first career World Championship start. 

The U.S. is 5-2-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) against Canada this season, with the two teams facing off twice in both the IPH Cup and Para Hockey Cup. The U.S. won the championship game of each tournament against Canada. The two teams also faced off in the Sled Series in Elmira, Ontario, March 13-18, where the U.S. won all three games, including an overtime victory in game two. 

Team USA and Canada have played of total of 109 contests all-time across all competitions, with the U.S. carrying a record of 40-12-7-48-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T). In World Championship-specific meetings between these squads, Team USA is 6-2-0-6 (W-OTW-OTL-L) all-time, most recently beating Canada 5-1 in the 2021 World Para ice Hockey Championship gold medal game.
