GAME DAY | U.S. and Canada Set For World Para Ice Hockey Championship Gold Medal Game

Puck drop set for 9:00 p.m. ET, live streaming on Paralympics YouTube

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will take on host country Canada here today in the gold medal game of the 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championship. 

Puck drop is set for 9:00 p.m. ET at the Moose Jaw Events Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The game will be streamed live on the Paralympics YouTube and Facebook.

The U.S. went 3-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in the preliminary round and defeated China 10-2 in the semifinals yesterday to reach the gold medal game.

The U.S. and Canada last met on Wednesday (May 31), in the final preliminary round game of the 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championship. The U.S. won 3-0, as Brody Roybal(Northlake, Ill.), Jack Wallace (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), and Travis Dodson (Deming, N.M) all scored, and Jen Lee (San Antonio, Texas) recorded a shutout. 

Team USA is 6-2-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) against Canada this season, including victories in the title games of the 2022 IPH Cup and 2022 Para Hockey Cup.

These two teams have played 110 contests all-time across all competitions, with the U.S. holdinga record of 41-12-7-48-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T). In World Championship-specific meetings between these squads, Team USA is 7-2-0-6 (W-OTW-OTL-L) all-time. 

The U.S. has played in the World Para Ice Hockey gold medal game on eight prior occasions, winning gold a record five times. This is the sixth consecutive meeting between Team USA and Canada in the gold medal game, with the U.S. winning three of those contests, including most recently at the 2021 World Para Ice Hockey Championship in Ostrava, Czechia.
