McKee captains the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team; ESPYS air tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC

Erica McKee (Chicago, Ill.), captain of the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team, is among four nominees for the 2023 ESPY Award for Best Athlete with a Disability. The winner will be unveiled during tonight’s (July 12) ESPYS telecast at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, which will air live on ABC at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The ESPYS is an annual award show presented by ESPN that honors sports and athletic achievement, both on an individual and team basis.

McKee led the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team to the championship of the inaugural IPC Women’s World Challenge in Green Bay, Wisconsin, this past August. McKee led U.S. defenders with two assists in four games and helped the U.S. to a perfect 4-0 record while allowing just one goal in the tournament.

She also skated in the 2022 USA Hockey Sled Classic, presented by the NHL, in Irvine, California, in November, and recorded a goal over two games. McKee also played in the 2023 Toyota-USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival in greater St. Louis, Missouri, in April where she helped her team to a third-place finish at the 2023 Sled Hockey National Championship.

McKee is the first women’s sled hockey player to be nominated for an ESPY award.
