Canada White struck first, with Joby Baumuller scoring off a two-on-one 1:38 into the contest.

Teddy Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) had a great chance to get the U.S. on the board with a breakaway feed from Will Horcoff (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) just past the period's halfway mark, but Canadian goaltender Jack Ivankovic made the stop.

The U.S. continued to put pressure on Canada White with several great chances, outshooting their northern neighbors by a 9-3 count at the close of the first 20 minutes.

The U.S. found themselves on the penalty kill twice in the second, but Patrick Quinlan (Kennett Square, Pa.) made several excellent stops , including a highlight-worthy pad save on a one-timer on the doorstep, to keep the U.S. within one.

Team USA continued to drive the net. Landon Hafele (Fairbanks, Alaska) was denied on a spin-o-rama move, then Trethewey fired a rocket from the point. Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) picked up the rebound, but again, Ivankovic kept the U.S. off the board.

Trethewey finally broke through on the U.S. power play with 10:11 left in the final stanza. Donny Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) beat Canada's Lev Katzin in a puck battle at the point and controlled the puck along the left wing. He found LJ Mooney (West Mifflin, Pa.) at the blue line and Mooney dished it to Trethewey at the right faceoff dot, who beat Ivankovic with a wrister.

Canada White nearly took back the lead off a shot from the slot at the hands of Matthew Schaefer, then Ethan Czata whipped a rebound attempt, but Quinlan made two huge stops to keep the game even.

The U.S. headed back to the power play with 2:14 to play and drained shots on net, but were unable to find the back of the net and the game headed to overtime. Team USA held the edge in shots, by a  35-20 margin, over Canada White at the end of regulation.
