GAME DAY: Team USA Resumes Rivalry Series Against Canada

U.S. to Skate Game Three Thursday at 7 p.m. ET

KITCHENER, Ontario – The 2023-24 Rivalry Series resumes on Thursday (Dec. 14), as the U.S. Women’s National Team faces Canada at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, Ontario. 

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be viewed on NHL Network. 

TODAY'S MATCH UP

Today's game marks the third game of the 2023-24 Rivalry Series between the U.S. Women's National Team and Canada. Game three is the first game of the series taking place in Canada after game one and game two were played in the United States. Team USA currently leads the series, 2-0. 

LAST TIME OUT

The U.S. topped Canada, 5-2, in the second game of the 2023-24 Rivalry Series. Knotted at 1-1 midway through the second period, Britta Curl and Hannah Bilka recorded back-to-back goals for the U.S. to give Team USA a two-goal lead heading into the final frame. In the third, Gabbie Hughes tallied two for the U.S., compared to Canada's one, resulting in a 5-2 victory. Nicole Hensley made 23 saves in net for the victory.

OPENING STRONG

Team USA currently leads the series, 2-0, after taking game one 3-1, and game two 5-2. It marks the second year in a row that Team USA has jumped out to a 2-0 lead to open the Rivalry Series. 

IN THE RIVALRY SERIES

Started during the 2018-19 season by USA Hockey and Hockey Canada, the Rivalry Series enters its fourth season (2018-19, 2019-20, 2022-23), with the U.S. holding an all-time record of 8-2-2-5 (W-OTW-OTL-L).

HEISE'S HOT HAND

Dating back to the start of the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship, forward Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.) has registered at least one point in eight of the last nine games for 14 points (2G, 12A). The U.S. holds a 7-1 record in those eight games.
