GAME DAY: Team USA Set For Switzerland At U18 Women’s Worlds

Puck Drop set for 2 p.m. ET on NHL Network

ZUG, Switzerland – The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team will face off against host Switzerland in its second preliminary-round game of the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship on Monday at Bossard Arena.

Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET) and will be live on NHL Network.

TODAY'S MATCHUP

Today's game marks the second preliminary-round game of the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship for Team USA. The U.S. currently sits at the top of Group B with a 1-0-0-0 record after defeating Slovakia, 7-1, in the first preliminary round game.

LAST TIME OUT

Propelled by a six-goal third period, the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team topped Slovakia, 7-1, in its opening game of the 2024 U18 Women's World Championship. Knotted at 1-1 heading into the third, Maggie Scannell scored 28 seconds into the final frame to jump start a tournament-record five goals in 4:02, pulling them ahead 6-1. Morgan McGathey tallied the team's seventh goal late in the third to put the final score at 7-1. The U.S. out shot Slovakia 63-10. Layla Hemp recorded nine saves in the victory.

ALL-TIME VS. SWITZERLAND

Today's meeting with Switzerland is just the second all-time matchup between the two teams at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship. The U.S. holds a 1-0-0-0 all-time record against the Swiss having previously beat them 11-0 in a preliminary round game on Jan. 8, 2008.

RECORD BREAKERS

Team USA set the U18 Women's World Championship record for fastest five goals by one team in a game after scoring five goals in 4:02 early in the third period against Slovakia on Sunday. The record, previously held by Sweden in 2009, was 6:04.

Seven players recorded a multi-point game in the U.S.' 7-1 victory over Slovakia in Caroline Averill (2G), Morgan McGathey (1G, 1A), Maggie Scannell (1G, 1A), Josie St. Martin (1G, 1A), Ava Thomas (1G, 1A), Kendra Distad (2A) and Ellie Dimatos (2A).
