REGINA, Sask. – The U.S. Women’s National Team fell 3-0 to Canada in game six of the 2023-24 Rivalry Series at the Brandt Center on Friday.

With the loss, the best-of-seven series is now tied three games apiece. The two teams will play a winner-take-all game seven on Sunday (Feb. 11) at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m. CT and can be viewed live on NHL Network.

“Tonight just wasn’t our night,” said John Wroblewski (Neenah, Wis.), head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team. “Canada kept pushing and was eventually rewarded in the third. We’re going to regroup and be ready for game seven on Sunday.”

An uneventful first period took the game scoreless into the first intermission. Both teams had early power plays in the game, but both defenses were able to kill them off.

After a brief power outage in the arena, the second frame started with an extra-skater chance for the U.S., and despite a few quality chances, Canada’s goaltender kept the contest scoreless.

Just seconds after the U.S. penalty expired, Canada earned one of its own, but once again, Team USA’s penalty kill shut things down.

With 11:40 left in the second, Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.) carried the puck into the zone, saucing a pass to Gabbie Hughes (Lino Lakes, Minn.), who was unmarked through the center of the ice. The puck deflected just over the top of the net.

Canada opened the scoring early in the third. On the power play, Natalie Spooner tipped a close-range opportunity to the top of the net. Canada added its second of the game when Emily Clark blew past the defense lifting a close-range shot to the back of the net.

Sarah Nurse added an insurance goal with 4:25 left in the third to bring the final tally to 3-0.

NOTES: Megan Keller (Farmington, Mich.) was named the U.S. Player of the Game… TheU.S. outshot Canada, 27-22… The U.S. was 0-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
