Greg Moore Named Head Coach of 2025 U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team

Team USA Opens IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship against Czechia on April 23

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Greg Moore (Lisbon, Maine), in his second season as a head coach at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, will lead the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team at the 2025 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, it was announced today by USA Hockey.

The tournament is slated for April 23-May 3 in Frisco and Allen, Texas, and tickets can be purchased online here. The U.S. will compete in Group B alongside Czechia, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland and will open tournament play against Czechia inside Comerica Center April 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET. All Team USA games will be broadcast live on NHL Network.

Moore will be joined by assistant coaches Chad Kolarik (Abington, Pa.), Ryan Hayes (Syracuse, N.Y.), David Lassonde (Durham, N.H.), Tommy Cogan (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Mike Garman (Vail, Colo.).

ABOUT MOORE

Moore will serve as the head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team for the first time and returns to the tournament for the first time since 2017, where he served as an assistant coach for Team USA and helped it win gold in Poprad, Slovakia. Additionally, Moore was on staff of the 2024 U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Ostrava, Czechia.

Moore, who is completing his second season as head coach of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, started his coaching career as an assistant coach for the NTDP from 2015-18 and was named head coach of the USHL’s Chicago Steel in 2018 and helped lead the team to the Clark Cup Finals. Moore then served as head coach of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies from 2019-23 before his arrival back to USA Hockey.

An NTDP alum (2000-02), Moore was a member of the 2002 Under-18 Men’s National Team that won gold at the 2002 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship.

Before his time behind the bench, Moore spent several years playing professionally, including at the game's highest level for the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets.

ABOUT KOLARIK

An alum of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program (2002-04), Kolarik enters his third season as an assistant coach with the NTDP and will serve in the same duty for his second time for the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team. The Abington, Pa., native helped Team USA capture gold at the 2023 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship and served on staff for the 2022 Under-18 Five Nations Championship, where he helped the team to a first-place finish.

Kolarik spent one season behind the bench as an assistant for the 2021-22 season for the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks before he began his tender in 2022 with the NTDP. Prior to his coaching career, the Phoenix Coyotes draft pick (2004) played 12 seasons (2008-20) of professional hockey in the U.S. and Europe. On the international stage, Kolarik played for Team USA on the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team and earned a silver medal with the U.S. in the 2004 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship.

ABOUT HAYES

Hayes, in his second season at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, is making his IIHF coaching debut.

Hayes joined USA Hockey after spending the previous 13 years playing professionally, including five seasons (2010-15) across the ECHL and eight campaigns (2015-23) in Europe, mostly in Switzerland’s top league. Hayes, an NTDP alum (2005-07), competed in two IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championships, helping Team USA to gold (2006) and silver (2007) medals.

ABOUT LASSONDE

Lassonde, in his fifth season as USA Hockey's national goaltending coach, brings over 35 years of experience to the staff, including collegiate stops at Dartmouth College, University of Denver, University of New Hampshire, Miami University and the University of Wisconsin. Lassonde was also awarded the Terry Flanagan Award in 2007 which honors an assistant coach's career body of work.

Lassonde has served as an assistant coach for U.S. teams on the international stage 14 times, including the 2013, 2024 and 2025 U.S. National Junior Team, along with the 2023 U.S. Under 18 Men's National Team, which all claimed gold medals.

ABOUT COGAN

In his second year as a player development coach for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, Cogan will make his IIHF debut at the 2025 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Cogan served as a Marine Infantry Officer and Special Operations Commander for over 21 years.  He is a USA Hockey Level 5 Coach and has 11 years of coaching experience prior to joining the NTDP staff.  He played four years of ACHA hockey at Niagara University before joining the Marine Corps.

ABOUT GARMAN

Garman, who is making his IIHF coaching debut, currently serves as the head coach and general manager of the USHL’s Chicago Steel.

The Vail, Colo., native has been with the Steel since 2017, serving as an assistant coach for three seasons, before he was named associate head coach and won the Clark Cup. Garman was named general manager prior to the 2021-22 season and re-joined the coaching staff in 2023 in his current dual role.

Prior to his tenure with the Steel, Garman played three seasons of professional hockey with stops in the ECHL, CHL and stints across Europe. The former netminder played collegiately for three seasons at Cornell University.

USA Hockey has also announced additional staff in support of the 2025 U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team including general manager Scott Monaghan (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.); assistant general manager Rod Braceful (Detroit, Mich.); director of sports science Joe Meloni (Falmouth, Mass.); hockey operations manager Maris Graudins (Kalamazoo, Mich.); equipment manager Jake Visser (Grand Rapids, Mich.); athletic trainer Mike Maciejewski (Lake Orion, Mich.); team physicians Dr. John Grant (St. John’s, Newfoundland) and Dr. Rebecca Northway (Farmington Hills, Mich.); communications manager Michael Reedy (West Dundee, Ill.) and digital content manager Charles Crowell V (Greensboro, N.C.).
