COLOGNE, Germany - Matt Gilroy (North Bellmore, N.Y./New York Rangers/Boston Univ.) scored three goals and Brandon Dubinsky (Anchorage, Alaska/New York Rangers) tallied five points (1-4) to lead the U.S. Men's National Team to a 10-0 blanking against Kazakhstan here today in Team USA's first relegation-round game at the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men's Championship.

"It was nice to see the guys score some goals," said U.S. Head Coach Scott Gordon. "Obviously we needed this win and we accomplished what we needed to. We'll get some rest and be ready for France tomorrow."

The U.S. raced to a 4-0 lead after the first period.

T.J. Oshie (Warroad, Minn./St. Louis Blues/Univ. of North Dakota) staked the U.S. to a 1-0 lead just :55 into the contest after sending a wraparound attempt behind Alexi Kuznetsov. Kyle Okposo (St. Paul, Minn./New York Islanders/Univ. of Minnesota) extended Team USA's lead just :18 later when he wristed a shot from the slot past the outstretched glove of Kuznetsov.

While on the power play, Gilroy gave Team USA a 3-0 advantage at 6:53 after cruising down the ice on an end-to-end rush, maneuvering through the Kazakhstan defense and sending a shot from the right faceoff circle past Kuznetsov on the far side. He potted his second of the game at 10:20 when his shot from the goal line went off the far post and into the net.

The U.S. scored five goals, including three power-play markers, in the middle frame to take a 9-0 advantage. Nick Foligno (Buffalo, N.Y./Ottawa Senators) opened the period's scoring at 8:03 when he skated down the left-wing boards, cut toward the slot and sent a backhanded shot past Pavel Zhitkov, who played the final two periods for Kazakhstan.

At 16:34, Ryan Potulny (Grand Forks, N.D./Edmonton Oilers/Univ. of Minnesota) completed a three-way passing play with Keith Yandle (Boston, Mass./Phoenix Coyotes) and Dubinsky while on the power play.

Gilroy recorded his third tally of the game 12 seconds later when he converted on a failed clearing attempt with a slap shot from the right faceoff circle.

Dubinsky gave Team USA an 8-0 lead after scoring on a 5-on-3 advantage at 18:44, while Tim Kennedy (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Sabres/Michigan State Univ.) added a power-play tally of his own with 31 seconds remaining in the period.

In the final frame, Chris Kreider (Boxford, Mass./Boston College), the youngest member of Team USA, scored off his own rebound with 1:03 remaining to close out the scoring.

U.S. netminder Scott Clemmensen (Des Moines, Iowa/Florida Panthers/Boston College) turned aside all 23 shots he faced in the first two periods, while Ben Bishop (Des Peres, Mo./Peoria Rivermen/Univ. of Maine) stopped five attempts in the third stanza.
