LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Quentin Shore (Denver, Colo./Univ. of Denver) tallied two goals and an assist to help Team USA to a 5-1 victory over Canada today at 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. The U.S. tallied three power-play goals and a shorthanded goal in its final game of the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp.

"I think that the game played like we hoped it would," said Don Lucia, head coach of the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team. "If we're going to be successful, we're going to have to have good goaltending, which we had today. Our specialty teams play was outstanding, especially our penalty killing. We scored some power-play goals. We were opportunistic today and it's a lot easier to play with a lead."

After negating three Canadian power plays to start the game, Team USA capitalized on its first two chances with the man-advantage at 19:00 and 19:47. Skating five-on-three, Connor Carrick (Orland Park, Ill.) and Will Butcher (Sun Prairie, Wis./Univ. of Denver) played catch at the blue line before setting up Riley Barber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Miami Univ.) with a one-time blast from the high slot. Next, Ian McCoshen (Hudson, Wis./Boston College) hammered a one-timer from the right faceoff dot inside the near post to make it 2-0. Matt Grzelcyk (Charlestown, Mass./Boston Univ.) and Shore assisted on the five-on-three tally.

Shore scored a shorthanded goal on a great individual effort at 13:57 of the second period. From the U.S. zone, Hudson Fasching (Burnsville, Minn./Univ. of Minnesota) lofted the puck high towards the Canadian blue line. Shore won a footrace to the puck, fought off a defender and ripped a slapshot from between the circles over Jake Paterson's glove.

Shore's second marker came on the power play at 5:17 of the third period. Team USA thwarted a Canadian clearing attempt, which created an odd-man chance down low. Nic Kerdiles (Irvine, Calif./Univ. of Wisconsin) fed Adam Erne (New Haven, Conn.), who made a cross-crease pass for Shore to bury into the net.

Stefan Matteau (Chicago, Ill.) stretched the lead to 5-1 when he picked up a loose puck on the left wing and wristed a low shot into the net from the left faceoff dot.

Canada notched its only goal with 5:57 remaining in the game.

Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine/Providence College) made 24 saves in the victory. Canada's Jake Paterson stopped 20 of 25 shots.
