U.S. National Junior Team Faces Sweden in Next Test on Tuesday at 7PM

KINGSTON, Ontario – The U.S. used goals from five different players on the way to a 5-2 victory over Germany here tonight in a pre-tournament game in preparation for the upcoming 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship.

"I thought it was a very competitive game and gave us a good chance to see some different players," said Mark Osiecki, head coach of the 2015 U.S National Junior Team. "We've enjoyed our time in Kingston so far and look forward to Tuesday's game with Sweden."

JT Compher (Northbrook, Ill./University of Michigan) raced down the left wing, cut to the net and slipped the puck past German netminder Ilya Sharipov at 14:45 of the first period for the game's opening goal. Then, with just 56 seconds left in the frame, Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich./University of Michigan) converted a nice centering pass from Hudson Fasching (Apple Valley, Minn./University of Minnesota) from the top of the crease to make it 2-0 for the U.S. after 20 minutes.

The U.S. doubled its advantage with a pair of second period goals. Jeremy Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) got loose up the right side and fed Miles Wood (Buffalo, N.Y./Noble and Greenough) who scored from point blank range at 8:07. Just 1:22 later, Zach Werenski (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University of Michigan) made moves around two German defenders and fired the puck into the upper corner of the net from the right circle for a 4-0 lead.

Germany closed the gap to 4-2 with just over four minutes remaining in regulation, however, following a neutral-zone faceoff win by Compher, Ryan Collins (Bloomfield, Minn./University of Minnesota) banked the puck up the right boards, and Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill./Miami University) picked it up and flipped a backhand shot into the top corner of the net with 2:16 left to account for the 5-2 final.

Thatcher Demko (San Diego, Calif./Boston College) played the first half of the game in goal for the U.S. and stopped all 14 shots he faced. Alex Nedeljkovic (Parma, Ohio/Plymouth Whalers) made six saves on eight shots in the second half of play.
