GAMEDAY: U18 Select Team Faces Canada in Series Opener

Marshall Named Captain; Norby and Woken are Alternates; 15 Players Make Debut at Event

Tonight is the first of three between the U.S. Women's Select Team and Canada at the Under-18 Series in Lake Placid, New York. .

Twenty-two players were chosen on Monday to represent the U.S. following participation in the USA Hockey Women's National Festival.

The series has been held annually since 2007. The U.S. and Canada have met eight times at the Under-18 Series and Team USA holds a 9-1-3-11 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record.

The U.S. roster features seven players who helped the 2015 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team earn a gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women's World Championship in Buffalo, New York. They are Cayla Barnes, Grace Bowlby, Rebecca Gilmore, Patricia Marshall, Presley Norby, Natalie Snodgrass and Alex Woken.

Earlier today,Team USA named Marshall captain with Norby and Woken as alternate captains.

Fifteen players will be making their Team USA debut at this event. They are Sydney Brodt, Emily Brown, Morgan Fisher, Matti Hartman, Taylor Heise, Makayla Langei, Beth Larcom, Emily Oden, Gracie Ostertag, Catherine Skaja, Abigail Stanley, Val Turgeon, Taylor Wente, Madeline Wethington and Grace Zumwinkle.

The 23 players on the U.S. roster represent nine different states. Minnesota leads the pack with 14 representatives. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota and Rhode Island each have one.

Reagan Carey (Colorado Springs, Colo.), USA Hockey's director of women's hockey, is the general manager of the 2015 U.S. Women's Under-18 Select Team ... Joel Johnson (White Bear Lake, Minn.), associate head coach of the University of Minnesota women's ice hockey team, was named head coach of the U.S. Women's Under-18 Team for the 2015-16 season on April 30, 2015 ... Joining him as assistant coaches are Katie Lachapelle (Winthrop, Mass.), assistant women's ice hockey coach at Boston University, and Maura Crowell (Mansfield, Mass.), head women's ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth ... Lucy Schoedel (Buffalo, N.Y.) is the goaltending coach.
