The 2016 U.S. Women’s National U18 Team Camp is underway at the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, New York. The team began with on-ice testing on January 1 before hitting the ice for an opening practice at the First Niagara Center, the home of the Buffalo Sabres, on January 2.
Earlier this week, the team dropped in on January 2 and watched the Sabres take on the Detroit Red Wings. The group also toured the arena and met some representatives from the organization.
This year’s roster features seven returning players from the 2015 team that won the gold medal. It was the first time any team had won the event on home soil. Those returning players are Cayla Barnes, Grace Bowlby, Rebecca Gilmore, Patricia Marshall, Presley Norby, Natalie Snodgrass, Alex Woken.
COMING SOON - CAPTAINS TBA:
The captains are expected to be announced this week with a strong pool of veterans available to help lead the team. Those players may be in place as early as tomorrow.
The team is off to a great start and has been working hard on the ice, including some days with multiple on-ice sessions, but is also going through a significant amount of off-ice conditioning as well.
Earlier today, it was announced that the team would face the Buffalo Beauts on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. ET in an exhibition game that will serve as a final tune up before heading to St. Catharines. The team also played a local U16 boys team on Sunday as part of its preparation.
