Hudson Fasching Added to 2016 U.S. Men's National Team

U.S. Roster Now Includes 17 Players

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Forward Hudson Fasching (Apple Valley, Minn.) has been added to the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship May 6-22 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.

This is the fourth time Fasching will be representing the United States in IIHF competition. A two-time U.S. National Junior Team member (2015, 2014), he earned a silver medal with the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team at the 2013 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship in Sochi, Russia. A member of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program for two seasons (2011-13), Fasching has tallied 13 points (3-10) in 17 IIHF games for the United States.

Fasching made his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres on March 26, 2016, after spending three seasons playing at the University of Minnesota. In 115 games with the Gophers, he tallied 94 points (46-48). Fasching helped Minnesota reach the NCAA national championship game in 2013-14 and also earn the Big Ten regular-season championship that year. He also helped Minnesota win the Big Ten tournament title in 2014-15.

The U.S. Men's National Team now includes nine forwards, five defensemen and three goaltenders.

NOTES: John Hynes (New Jersey Devils) is serving as head coach of the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team ... Of the current 17 players on the U.S. Men's National Team roster, 11 are alumni of the United States Hockey League, the only Tier I junior league in the United States; five spent time in the North American Hockey League, the only Tier II junior league in the U.S.; 13 have competed at the NCAA Division I level; and 10 played for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program ... The staff and players of the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team are selected by the U.S. Men's National Team Advisory Group, led by Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. Other members include Stan Bowman (Chicago Blackhawks), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles Kings), David Poile (Nashville Predators), RayShero (New Jersey Devils), Dale Tallon (Florida Panthers) and Don Waddell (Carolina Hurricanes). In addition, Chris Drury (New York Rangers) will serve as a member of the management group for the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team ... The 2016 IIHF Men's World Championship will include teams from 16 nations, split into two groups of eight. Teams will play a round-robin format within their group and the top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The U.S. will play its seven preliminary round games in St. Petersburg at Yubileiny Arena … USA Hockey's international council, chaired by Gavin Regan (Potsdam, N.Y.), has oversight responsibilities for all U.S. national teams.
