U.S. Developmental Team Tops Canada, 5-0, To Win Series

Eustace and Zach tally two points; LaMarre records second consecutive shutout

David Eustace (Stoneham, Mass.) and Kyle Zych (South Hadley, Mass.) each produced multi-point performances, four other players collected a point and Griffin LaMarre (Haverhill, Mass.) earned his second consecutive shutout as the U.S. Developmental Sled Hockey Team topped Canada, 5-0, to win the three-game series today at the 2016 Defi Sportif in Montreal, Quebec.

“Everyone contributed and it was a terrific team win,” said Mike MacMillan, head coach of the U.S. Developmental Sled Hockey Team. “I’m proud of the way we competed and closed the season with back-to-back shutout victories.”

Vlad Lundquist (Colorado Springs, Colo.) opened the scoring with 4:34 remaining in the opening frame when he fired home a loose puck in the slot.  Kelsey DiClaudio (Pittsburgh, Pa.) doubled the lead 58 seconds later with a wrist shot from the hashmarks.

The U.S. made it 3-0 when Zych connected on the power play 5:42 into the middle stanza.

Zych found the back of the net again 5:02 into the final frame for his second of the game and fourth the series. Eustace, who assisted on Zych’s second goal, scored 2:32 later to account for the 5-0 final.

LaMarre, making his second consecutive start, stopped all five shots he faced for the shutout.

U.S. Paralympians Kip St. Germaine (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Mike Blabac (Hamburg, N.Y.) are serving as associate head coach and assistant coach, while Craig Brady (Silver Spring, Mass.) is also serving as an assistant coach. Rett Talbot (Delray Beach, Fla.) is the team’s physiotherapist, Dr. Laura Dunne (Allentown, Pa.) is the team doctor and Bill Sandberg (Parker, Colo.) is serving as equipment manager … Pre-registration is now open for tryouts for the 2016-17 U.S. National and Developmental Sled Hockey Teams, which will take place July 16, 2016 at Northtown Center in Amherst, New York.
