Brock Nelson Added to U.S. Men's National Team

Nelson will be skating on his third consecutive U.S. Men's National Team.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Forward Brock Nelson (Warroad, Minn./New York Islanders/Univ. of North Dakota) has been added to the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team that is competing at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.

Nelson, who will be skating on his third consecutive U.S. Men's National Team, led the United States to a bronze medal at the 2015 IIHF Men's World Championship in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic, with a team-leading 10 points and six goals. His six goals tied for third among tournament skaters. Nelson also earned a bronze medal with the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York.

In three seasons with the NHL's New York Islanders, Nelson has collected 108 points, including 60 goals and 48 assists in 235 games. He played in 81 regular-season games in 2015-16 and recorded a career-high 26 goals that ranked second on the Islanders. Nelson added five points (1-4) in 11 playoff games for the Islanders.

The U.S. Men's National Team now has 14 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.

NOTES: The staff and players of the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team are selected by the U.S. Men's National Team Advisory Group, led by Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. Other members include Stan Bowman (Chicago Blackhawks), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles Kings), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Ray Shero (New Jersey Devils), Dale Tallon (Florida Panthers) and Don Waddell (Carolina Hurricanes). In addition, Chris Drury (New York Rangers) will serve as a member of the management group for the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team ...
