Girls 18 PDC - Day 2 Recap

Team Pink opened the second day of the USA Hockey Girls Under-18 Player Development Camp with a 2-1 win over Team Gray. Team Pink started strong in the first period with a goal by Hannah Schultz. Alyson Niebur made it a 2-0 in the second period. Team Gray cut the deficit in half midway through the second period with a goal by Julia Maclean. However, Team Pink’s goalies, Amanda Aalto and Calla Frank, combined to make 22 saves in the game and preserved the 2-1 victory for Team Pink.

In game two, Team Black defeated Team White 2-1 in overtime. After a scoreless first period, Taylor Brandeburg broke the shutout at 15:25 of the second period and gave Team White a 1-0 lead. Team Black’s Jillian Fey scored the game-tying goal with less than two minutes to play. Katelyn Holmes netted the game-winner for Team Black in overtime.

In the third game of the day, Team Red earned a 4-2 victory over Team Green. Team Red’s Alison Rodgers opened the scoring with a goal just :57 into the first period.  Team Green’s Stella Haberman tied the game just over three minutes later before Red regained the lead with goals by Gillis Frechette and Haberman in the final minutes of the opening frame. Team Red would add another goal by Tessa Ward early in the second period. Devin Poranzinski added a goal for Team Green to bring the final to 4-2.

Team Gold charted a 4-0 win over Team Purple to earn the first shutout of camp.  Gold’s McKenzie Hauswirth and Michaela Boyle each tallied goals within the first minute of play, while Paetyn Lewis and Lucienne Bianchi added a pair of goals in the closing minutes of the second period. Team Gold goaltenders Aerin Frankel and Alexis Baker combined to make 13 saves in earning the shutout.

In the final game of the day, Team Light Blue defeated Team Royal by a score of 4-3.  Emma Kee opened the scoring for Team Light Blue with a goal at 13 seconds into play before Team Royal’s Kelsey King, Corrinne McCool and Taylor Anderson scored three unanswered goals to give their team a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.  Team Light Blue would respond in the middle period with goals by Tina Paolillo, Allyson Simpson and Naomi Rogge to earn the comeback victory.
