GAMEDAY: U18 Series Opens Today vs. Canada

The U.S. and Canada are meeting today at 7:30 p.m. MT at the Markin MacPhail Centre for the opener of the 2016 Women's Under-18 Series. The series has been held annually since 2007. The U.S. and Canada have met eight times at the Under-18 Series and Team USA holds a 9-1-3-11 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: Cayla Barnes is serving as team captain and the alternate captain is Taylor Wente. It is the first time that Barnes has served as team captain for Team USA.

GOLDEN GIRLS: The roster features 11 players who helped the 2016 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team earn a gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women's World Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario. They are Cayla Barnes, Jesse Compher, Alex Gulstene, Taylor Heise, Natalie Heising, Emily Oden, Gracie Ostertag, Catherine Skaja, Taylor Wente, Madeline Wethington and Grace Zumwinkle.

LEADING THE WAY: Joel Johnson is the head coach and he is assisted by Courtney Kennedy and Katie Lachapelle. Alli Altmann is the goaltending coach.

MAKING A STATEMENT: The 22 players represent eight different states. Minnesota leads the pack with 11 representatives followed by New York with three. California and Illinois both have two players and New Jersey, North Dakota, Michigan and Alaska each have one.

BREAKING THE ICE: Eleven players will make their Team USA debuts during the series, including nine tonight.
