Knight notched seven goals and nine points at 2016 IIHF Women's World Championships

The Women’s Sports Foundation has selected Hilary Knight as a finalist for the 2016 Sportswoman of the Year Award, which is based on athletic achievements between August 1, 2015 and August 21, 2016.

Voting has begun and will conclude 11:59 p.m. ET, September 11, 2016.

Vote For Knight

A staple on the U.S. Women’s National Team, Knight has ranked among the world’s most dominant hockey players for much of the past decade. As her game continues to reach new levels, Knight was honored with the prestigious 2016 USA Hockey Bob Johnson Award for excellence in international hockey competition.

In 2016, Knight competed in her eighth International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship, pacing all tournament skaters with seven goals and nine points to lead the U.S. Women’s National Team to its third consecutive gold medal and her sixth overall. For her performance, Knight was named most valuable player of the tournament and best forward as chosen by the directorate. Additionally, she was selected to the media all-star team and was named one of the top three U.S. players as chosen by the coaches.

Prior to her standout world championship performance, Knight collected six points (three goals, three assists), including the game-winning overtime goal in the championship game, to help the U.S. claim the 2015 Four Nations Cup in Sundsvall, Sweden.

Knight also spent the 2015-16 season with the Boston Pride, where she led the league with 15 goals and 18 assists in 17 games to help the Pride claim the first-ever Isobel Cup as part of the inaugural season of the National Women’s Hockey League.

The winners of the Women’s Sports Foundation awards will be determined by a combination of a public vote (50%) and the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Awards Committee’s vote (50%). The winners will be the two athletes – one individual finalist and one team finalist – who receive the highest combined share of the public vote and the Awards Committee’s vote. The winners will be announced to the public and the awards will be presented at the 37th Annual Salute to Women in Sports Gala at Cipriani Wall Street on October 19, 2016.  For more information on the gala, please visit www.WomensSportsFoundation.org/AnnualSalute.
