U.S. Women's Nat'l Univ. Team Blanks China, 3-0

ALMATY, KazakhstanAmber Greene (Feedings Hills, Mass./University of Massachusetts) made 28 saves and Kendra Myers (Cedar Springs, Mich./Grand Valley State University) scored the game-winner 1:24 into the final period to lead the U.S. Women’s National University Team to a 3-0 victory over China in the third-place game at the 2017 Winter World University Games.

With the win, Team USA (2-0-0-2; W-OTW-OTL-L) finishes in third-place for the second time in the past three Winter World University Games. The U.S. also finished in third at the 2013 Winter World University Games in Trentino, Italy.

“I’m very proud of this team,” said Shelley Looney, head coach of the 2017 U.S. Women’s National University Team. “We’ve come so far in such a short period of time and we couldn’t have asked for a better performance here in our final game.”

Myers broke a scoreless tie 1:24 into the final period on a play assisted by Nicole Matthews (West Chester, Ohio/Miami University) and Rachael Booth (Washington, Mich./Miami University).

Leah MacArthur (Boulder, Colo./University of Colorado) doubled the U.S. advantage just 3:06 after Myers’ tally.

Maddie Wolsmann (Maple Grove, Minn./Michigan State University) tallied with 1:41 remaining to make the final 3-0.

Greene finished with 28 saves to earn the shutout victory for Team USA.

Jordan Anderson (New Prague, Minn./University of Minnesota) and Alyssa Visalli (Mason, Ohio/Miami University) also provided assists for the U.S.
