GAME DAY: Today is the first meeting between the U.S. and Germany at the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championship, taking place at 7:30 p.m. ET at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. The game will be streamed live on NHL.com. It will also be televised in the United States on NHL Network on delay at 10 a.m. tomorrow (April 7). Prior to the 2017 IIHF WWC, the last meeting between the two teams at the women’s worlds was on April 4, 2008, as the U.S. defeated Germany, 8-1, in the preliminary round. The U.S. is undefeated (3-0-0-0-0) and has outscored its opponents 14-3, including a pair of shutouts.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE: Team USA has outscored Germany, 60-2, in five career games at the IIHF Women's World Championships. The last time these two teams faced each other in 2008 in China, only five members of Team USA were on the roster. They are Meghan Duggan, Kelli Stack, Gigi Marvin, Hilary Knight and Kacey Bellamy. 

TOURNAMENT LEADERS: Brianna Decker and Kendall Coyne lead Team USA and are tied for first among all scorers with three goals. They are also tied for second overall with four assists and seven points. Monique Lamoureux-Morando leads all defensemen in scoring with three assists/points. Lamoureux-Morando also leads the tournament with a plus-six rating and Decker is tied for second with a plus-five rating.

LOOKING BACK: Hannah Brandt scored the game-winner with 7:35 to play and Hilary Knight netted a pair of power-play markers to lead Team USA to a 5-3 victory over Finland in its final preliminary-round game Alex Rigsby finished with 21 saves to earn the victory in her first action of the tournament. Kendall Coyne notched three points (1-2) and Brianna Decker dished out a pair of helpers. For a complete game recap, click here.
