The United States and Czech Republic are meeting for the 15th time in IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship history.
The Czech Republic is coming off a 3-2 loss against Sweden on Saturday (April 15) following a 7-4 victory against Belarus on Friday (April 14).
The Czech Republic are led offensively by Filip Zadina (1-2-3), Filip Chytil (1-2-3) and Jachym Kondelik (1-2-3) so far this tournament. Jakub Skarek has started both games between the Pipes for the Czech Republic and has made 64 saves on 71 shots (.901).
The U.S. National Under-18 Team has earned two victories against the Czech Republic during the 2016-17 season. In November, the U.S. defeated the Czechs 6-2 at the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament in Plymouth, Michigan. In the 2017 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament in Sundsvall, Sweden, the U.S. earned a 3-1 victory.
The U.S. owns an all-time record of 11-1-1-1-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) against the Czech Republic. The two teams met last met in this tournament during the 2016 quarterfinals in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The U.S. blanked the Czech Republic 8-0 to advance to the semifinals. This was the largest ever margin of victory between the two countries.
The U.S. has outscored the Czech Republic 64-23 all-time.
The last medal round matchup between the two teams came on April 27, 2014, when the U.S. defeated the Czech Republic 5-2 to earn its eight gold medal. Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Sonny Milano (Massapequa, N.Y.) each had a goal and two assists to lead Team USA to the victory.
