The United States Olympic Committee announced today that forward Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.), goaltender Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) and the U.S. Women's National Team have each been named Best of April finalists for Team USA Awards. Fans are invited to vote for their favorite athletes and teams at TeamUSA.org/Awards through midnight Monday, May 8.
Declan Farmer put forth a record-breaking performance to help the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team earn a silver medal at the 2017 Para Sled Hockey World Championship in Gangneung, South Korea. Named Best Forward of the Tournament, in seven games Farmer registered 12 goals and 18 points to set new U.S. records in the event. Additionally, his 20 goals and 35 points in 12 games this season set new U.S. single-season records.
Dylan St. Cyr backstopped Team USA to the gold medal at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's Under-18 World Championship in Poprad and Spisska Nova Res, Slovakia. Playing every minute of all seven U.S. wins, St. Cyr led the tournament with a 1.96 goals against average and ranked second in save percentage with .920. The U.S. Player of the Game in Team USA's 5-1 preliminary round victory over Sweden, St. Cyr was named one of the Top 3 U.S. Players as selected by the coaches in addition to being named to the Media All-Star Team.
The U.S. Women’s National Team claimed its fourth consecutive International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship and seventh in eight years with an exciting 3-2 overtime victory over rival Canada in the gold medal game. The U.S. became the first team to win the event on home soil at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. Team USA was led by the trio of Brianna Decker, Kendall Coyne and Hilary Knight which combined for 12 goals, 21 assists and 33 points in five games.
