11 Different U.S. Players Collect A Point

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – Matt White (Whittier, Calif.) had two goals and an assist and 11 different players collected a point to lead the U.S. National Inline Team to an 8-2 victory over Canada in its second game at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Inline World Championship.

"This was another terrific effort and great all-around performance," said Joe Cook, head coach of the U.S. National Inline Team. "It was great to see our team control the game and I think jumping out to an early lead was the key to our victory."

Team USA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 2:48 of play on goals just :42 apart by John Schiavo (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and White.

Tyler Spezia (Clinton Township, Mich.) extended the U.S. advantage to 3-0 at the 6:17 mark of the opening period before Canada made it 3-1 with less than a minute left in the frame.

Cody Kettler (St. Louis, Mo.) forced a turnover and converted a point-blank attempt 4:59 into the second stanza to give Team USA a 4-1 lead. The U.S. held the three-goal advantage entering the extended intermission after two periods.

White scored his second goal of the game on a shorthanded breakaway 5:54 into the third period to make it 5-1.

Travis Noe (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), P.J. DiMartino (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Jack Combs (St. Louis, Mo.) added final-period markers for the U.S. before Canada scored with just over a minute to play to account for the 8-2 final.  

Troy Redmann (Brea, Calif.) stopped 18 shots to earn his first victory of the tournament in goal for Team USA.

Team USA closes preliminary-round play tomorrow (June 27) against Croatia at 8 a.m. ET. A live stream of that contest will be available here.

NOTES: For complete game stats, click here …  The U.S. has medaled in all but five of the 19 IIHF Inline World Championships previously staged, including six gold medals (1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2013), four silver medals (1998, 2001, 2009, 2011) and four bronze medals (2000, 2003, 2005, 2014). There was no tournament held in 1999 or 2016.
