AMHERST, N.Y. – In keeping with yesterday’s theme, two more games went to a shootout today as Team Forest and Team Black won in the extra frames. Team Kelly, Team Orange and Team Gold all walked away with regulation victories.

Team Orange posted a convincing victory as they bested Team Columbia 6-3. For Team Orange, the combination of Blake McLaughlin (Grand Rapids, Minn.), Gunnar Wolfe Fontaine (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Sean McAcoy (Charlotte, N.C.) made a case for best line in camp today.

The top line for Team Orange played aggressive for the majority of the game and kept the defensive corps of Team Columbia on its heels. Consistently applying pressure on the forecheck and creating odd-man rushes helped the trio combine for six points (3G, 3A) and set the tone of the game. Orange teammate Philippe Lapointe (Burr Ridge, Ill.) also contributed three assists and now leads camp with seven points along with McLaughlin and Kyle Haskins (Huntington, Vt.) of Team White.

On the Team Columbia side, Connor Caponi (Brookfield, Wis.) has been showing himself as one of the most physical players invited to camp. Listed at only 5-foot-8 and 171 pounds, Caponi proved he is not afraid to use his body. Despite not amassing a gaudy point total thus far (0G, 1A), Caponi is still making a case with his gritty and physical play.

Team Kelly continued to show its dominance by defeating Team White 4-0. Goaltenders Jonathan Mor (Highland Park, Ill.) and Blake Pietila (Howell, Mich.) combined for the first full-game shutout of the camp with five and 13 saves, respectively. In winning its second game outright in three days, Team Kelly had seven different players contribute at least a point and now is tied with Team Gold in the standings with seven points.

Both shootout games included game-tying goals in the last minute, but both of the late-scoring teams ultimately fell in the shootout. Team Red’s John Malone (Madison, N.J.) and Team Grey’s Colin Schmidt (Plymouth, Minn.) brought their teams back with goals in the final minute before seeing their squads fall 3-1 and 2-1 in the shootouts, respectively.

For Team Black, goaltender Benjamin Kraws (Cranbury, N.J.) had another spectacular game. Looking comfortable and composed in the crease, Kraws made 16 saves in the first half and so far has a .955 save percentage over three games.

Today’s final game was a defensive struggle as Team Gold edged out Team Royal 1-0 as Ryder Donovan (Duluth, Minn.) scored the lone goal of the game. Isaiah Saville (Anchorage, Alaska) continued his shutout streak as he made nine saves and has yet to allow a goal this week.

With another full schedule of games tomorrow, the Select 17 Camp will begin play at 11 a.m. Eastern Time when Team Grey takes on Team Royal.
