After a one-day hiatus from games that was filled instead with practice, strength and conditioning, and film sessions, the Girls U-18 Select Camp invitees returned to the ice for two games today at the Harold Alfond Forum, on the campus of the University of New England.

Team Gold faced off against Team Red and both teams were looking for their first win of camp after being edged 3-2 in the opening round of games on Sunday. Team Red tallied the first goal at 3:47 of the first period when Madeleine Wethington (Minnesota) gathered a turnover at her blue line and passed to Kaitlyn O’Donohoe (Atlantic) who rushed into the right side of the offensive zone with Dominique Petrie (Pacific). A rebound popped out and Wethington followed up the play, collected the rebound and scored. Team Gold knotted it up in the second period as Kenzie Hauswirth (Minnesota) took a pass from Britta Curl (Northern Plains) and scored top-shelf. Sydney Bard (New York) also picked up an assist on the goal. Red took back the lead when Sydney Shearen (Minnesota) carried the puck into the offensive zone, then slid a pass to Sara McClanahan (Minnesota) who dropped the puck in the slot for Kelly Browne (Massachusetts) who buried what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 3-2 Team Red triumph.

In the second game of the day, Team Blue skated to a 3-1 win. Lauren Deblois (New England) scored on her own rebound to give Team Blue a lead going into the second period, then the teams traded goals in the second period. Team White’s Haylee Blinkhorn (Minnesota) forced a turnover at the blue line and Katelyn Knoll (New York) finished the play, scoring her team’s lone goal of the game. Team Blue regained the lead when Kaitlyn Kaufman (Minnesota) converted a nice pass from Hannah Bilka (Rocky Mountain) to make it 2-1. Bilka then secured a Team Blue win with her second point of the game, scoring the third and final goal. With the win, Team Blue emerged as the first team to post two victories at the camp.
