AMHERST, N.Y. – With the first-day jitters out of the way, the 10 teams at USA Hockey’s Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp hit the ice today for a full schedule of games.

Sound defensive play was in ample supply on Day 2, as teams seemed to tighten up and hunker down in their own end, with the exception of Team Red, which surrendered seven goals in a 7-2 loss to Team Columbia.

A total of only 28 goals were scored on Day 2 compared to 38 on the opening day of games. Kyle Schroeder (Lincolnshire, Ill.) highlighted the scoring efforts by tallying two in the Team Columbia victory.

While the scoring was down from yesterday, the number of penalties taken were not. After officials assessed 36 penalties on the first day, the players were assessed 44 penalties on day two, including 12 in our first game of the day between Team White and Team Royal.

In that contest, Caden Villegas (Plano, Texas) scored the first goal late in the opening half, closing out an impressive half of hockey for Team Royal, but Team White regained the momentum by scoring two goals just 12 seconds apart in the second half. The goals from Jacob Baccini (Hanover, Minn.) and Jake Hale (Minneapolis, Minn.) gave Team White the spark it needed to secure its first victory of the week.

Team Orange played its way to another impressive victory behind four second-half goals en route to a 4-1 triumph over Team Kelly. Lukas Svejkovsky (Point Roberts, Wash.) helped get the scoring going with a well-executed chip off the boards that sent his teammate Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) in on a breakaway that he finished with ease.

The subsequent two goals came on eerily similar plays with Cameron Newton (Dexter, Mich.) and William Foley (Valencia, Pa.) both releasing wrist shots just inside of the blue line that found their way to the back of the net.

Team Forest and Team Grey battled to the first shootout of the week, one that saw Sam Colangelo (Stoneham, Mass.) score the only goal in the extra frames, giving Team Forest the 3-2 victory. Goaltender Kyle Chauvette (New Boston, N.H.) stood tall during the shootout and was able to stop all five shooters for his side.

In the final tilt of the evening, Team Black closed Day 2 with a 4-1 victory over Team Gold.

Up next, Team Kelly and Team White will begin the Day 3 slate of games tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET. Visit TeamUSA.USAHockey.com for all the details.
