Girls 15 PDC Notebook: Day 1

Today's Camp Notebook

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The 2017 USA Hockey Girls 15 National Player Development Camp opened July 9 with games at St. Cloud State University’s Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

In the first game of the day, Team Gold scored a 6-5 win over Team Red. Emmery Korfmacher (Cottage Grove, Wis.) led Team Gold with two goals, while teammates Sydney Langseth (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Sarah Maciel (Narragansett, R.I.) each had a goal and an assist in the game. For Team Red, Anna Bargman (Boxford, Mass.) had two goals and teammate Fiona Claugherty (Woodbury, Minn.) added one goal and two assists.

In other action, Team Light Blue tallied an 8-2 win over Team Orange. Audrey Wethington (Edina, Minn.) notched three goals for Team Light Blue, while teammate Ella Huber (Northfield, Ill.) had one goal and three assists. Light Blue goalies McKinley Hoff (Anchorage, Alaska) and Taylor Hyland (Wellesley, Mass.) combined for 16 saves in the game.

Later, in Game 4, Team Green defeated Team Gray 4-2. Team Green gained the upper hand in the contest with late goals in the second period by Lyndie Lobdell (Aurora, Ill.) and an empty-net goal by Molly Pedone (Trinity, Fla.), one of four native Floridians in camp. Lindsay Maloney (Burnsville, Minn.) and Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) scored goals in the game for Team Gray.

Next up, Team Pink and Team Black skated to a 4-4 tie in a game featuring six goals in the second period. Team Pink rallied from a 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals from Ashley Halverson (Minneapolis, Minn.), Ally Nolan (Westford, Mass.), Anya Jiang (Mason, Ohio) and Skylar Irving (Kingston, Mass.). Team Black forced the overtime session with a goal at 21:27 of the second period by Lacy Eden (Annapolis, Md.).

Completing the first day of competition at the camp, Team Royal Blue and Team Vegas battled to a 3-3 draw. Kelsey Swanson (Williamsburg, Mich.) carded two goals in the contest to lead Team Vegas, while Lauren McElroy (Carrollton, Texas), Nikki Olund (Hudson, Wis.) and Ellie Bayard (Medfield, Mass.) scored second period goals for Team Royal Blue.
