AMHERST, N.Y. – The USA Hockey Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp wrapped up its final full day of competition today with all 12 teams in action.
Team Columbia Blue 5, Team Navy Blue 4
Team Columbia Blue got out of the gates quickly with a four-goal first period, including two goals from Blake Perbix (Zimmerman, Minn.) and Cole Vallese (Rockville, Md.) in the final thirty seconds of the first half, making the score 4-0 heading to intermission.
Team Navy Blue came out of the dressing room inspired to rally, however, and scored two quick goals to shave the lead in half. Tallies from Ben Schoen (Maumee, Ohio) shorthanded and Joe Miller (Minneapolis, Minn.) drew Navy Blue to within two. Another goal from Winter Wallace (Boulder, Colo.) made it a game again. But Columbia Blue found the back of the net for the first and only time in the second half when Blake Mesenburg (Orono, Minn.) extended the lead back to two. A late goal from Team Navy Blue proved not enough as Columbia Blue held on for the victory.
Team Forest Green 8, Team Royal Blue 3
Team Forest Green found the back of the net early and often, jumping out to a 5-0 lead by halftime. Two quick goals from Team Royal Blue to begin the second half wouldn’t suffice as Team Forest Green piled on three more goals to win going away. Jake Waterman (Warwick, R.I.) and Gabe Dombrowski (Great Falls, Va.) were the offensive catalysts for Team Forest Green as they contributed three points apiece.
Despite taking eight penalties on the day, Team Royal Blue was able to kill every Forest Green power play except one.
Team Grey 8, Team Orange 2
Not to be outdone by Team Forest Green, Team Grey also provided some offensive fireworks as they produced eight goals in a winning effort. Ty Tullio (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the lone multi-goal scorer on the afternoon for Team Grey as six other members of his team contributed single tallies.
Team Gold 9, Team Teal 4
If you like offense, the contest that kicked off our second round of games was the one for you. Nikolai Dulak (Hugo, Minn.) played one of the most impressive games of the camp as he managed a five-point outing (4G, 1A). Dulak scored his first goal with 13:25 remaining in the first half and had a helper on a Cross Hanas (Highland Village, Texas) goal later in the half. Dulak then scored three goals in the final 5:35 of the second half to give him the highest point total of the day.
Team Kelly and Team Black finished off the day as the winning teams as they defeated teams White and Red, respectively. Thomas Stift (Chino Hills, Calif. / 1G, 2A) led the way for Team Kelly offensively, while Lleyton Roed’s two goals paced Team Black. Roed hails from Hugo, Minn.
