Girls U-18 PDC Notebook: Day 5

Today's Camp Notebook

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The USA Hockey Girls U-18 Player Development Camp continued today at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on the campus of St. Cloud State University.

Team Green 4, Team Black 1

Team Green’s Tanner Gates (Oceanside, Calif.) set the tempo early with a pair of goals in the first period. Team Green extended its lead to 4-0 with second-period markers from Caroline Goffredo (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Reilly Springman (Zimmerman, Minn.) before a goal by Team Black’s Maeghan Kennard (Hamlin, N.Y.) ended the shutout at 13:44 of the second. Goaltenders Ava Bailey (Hudson, Wis.) and Chloe Stockinger (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) combined for 23 saves and the win for Team Green. Goffredo is tied for the camp’s goal-scoring lead with four this week. Team Green’s Carly Beniek (Mound, Minn.) is tied for the camp’s assist lead with four this week and is second with six points.

 Team Gold 6, Team Pink 3

Team Gold took command of the game with four unanswered goals in the first period and one more in the second to gain a 5-0 lead. A goal by Team Pink’s Brieja Parent (Forest Lake, Minn.) at 4:16 of the second period ended the shutout. In the game, Team Gold was led by Jamie Comeau (Wakefield, R.I.) with three assists, Sydney Herrington (Bow, N.H.) with one goal and one assist and Madison Mashuga (Andover, Minn.) with one goal and one assist. Mashuga is tied for the camp’s assist lead with four. She is also second on the scoring leaderboard with six points. 

Team Royal 7, Team Gray 1

At the end of the first period, Team Royal held a close 2-1 edge thanks to goals by Brooke Bryant (Linden, Calif.) and Gabrielle Rud (St. Cloud, Minn.). The game’s pace took a dramatic turn in the second as Team Royal charged to a 7-1 lead with five unanswered goals. Bryant paced the winning squad with two goals and two assists, while Rud added one goal and two assists. Caroline Difiore (Medfield, Mass.) scored Team Gray’s lone goal. Of note, Bryant leads the camp this week with four goals and seven points.

 Team Purple 3, Team Light Blue 2

Down 2-0 after Team Light Blue goals from Allyson Watrous (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Gretchen Klens (Springboro, Ohio), Team Purple rallied with three unanswered goals from McKenna Ellingson (Alexandria, Minn.), Celine Pietraszek (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Paige Anderson (Andover, Minn.) to gain a 3-2 victory. Goalies Abby Bollig (Farmington, Minn.) and Natalie Ferenc (Orchard Lake, Mich.) combined for 30 saves and the win for Team Purple. Bollig and Ferenc are tied for second in the camp this week with 40 saves apiece.

Team Red 4, Team White 2

The camp’s day was finished with a 4-2 win by Team Red over Team White. Team Red set the pace early with three unanswered goals in the first period by Kenzie D’Ascenzo (Farmington Hills, Mich.), Anna Segedi (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Peyton Anderson (Arvada, Colo.). Brooke Bink (Escanaba, Mich.) scored Team White’s first goal of the game in the second period before Team Red ended its scoring in the second with a goal by Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.). To complete the game, Team White’s Sadie Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored to made it 4-2. Team White’s Arielle DeSmet had 10 saves in the game and leads the camp this week with a 0.87 GAA. D’Ascenzo is tied for third in the camp this week with three goals to her credit.
