The Women’s Sports Foundation has selected Brianna Decker as a finalist for the 2017 Team Sportswoman of the Year Award, which is based on athletic achievements over the past 12 months.

Voting has begun and will conclude at 11:59pm ET on August 27th.

Decker, who was named the 2017 Bob Allen Women’s Player of the Year by USA Hockey, helped guide the U.S. Women’s National Team to a gold medal at the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championship and a first-place finish at the 2016 Four Nations Cup.

Decker has been a mainstay at forward for the U.S, having participated in 16 events with the National Team since 2010, including the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

At the IIHF Women’s World Championship last April in Plymouth, Michigan, Decker earned the Directorate Award as the top forward in the tournament and was also named Most Valuable Player of the Media All-Star Team after finishing with 12 points (3G, 9A) in five games, which tied for the tournament lead.

In the opening game of the tournament against Canada, Decker scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory. She also netted a pair of goals in a 7-0 win over Russia in the preliminary round.

At the 2016 Four Nations Cup, Decker led Team USA with seven points (1G, 6A), including the tournament-winning goal and two assists in the championship game against Canada. She was also named U.S. Player of the Game in a preliminary-round contest versus Canada.

Decker spent the 2016-17 season playing professional hockey with the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League, where she led all skaters with 14 goals and 31 points en route to being named the league’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season. She recorded a point in 15 of the Pride’s 17 regular-season games, including eight multi-point efforts.

The winners will be determined by a combination of the public vote (50%) and the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Awards Committee’s vote (50%). The winners will be the two athletes – one individual finalist and one team finalist – who receive the highest combined share of the public vote and the Awards Committee’s vote.
