Today marks the second time that the U.S. will face Finland in the tournament, having defeated them, 3-1, in preliminary round play on Feb. 11.

GAMEDAY: The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team will compete in the semifinals of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games today against Finland at the Gangneung Hockey Centre. Team USA is the home team and will wear its navy blue jerseys. Today's game will be televised on NBCSN and live game updates will be provided on Twitter @USAHockey.

ALL-TIME VS. FINLAND AT THE OLYMPICS: The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team is 7-0-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time against Finland at the Olympics, a record that includes the U.S.'s most recent victory over Finland that came in the opening game of the preliminary round on Feb. 11. Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) made 23 saves and Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.), Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.) and Monique Lamoureux-Morando (Grand Forks, N.D.) each scored as the U.S. defeated Finland, 3-1, in that match-up. With the win, the U.S. kept alive its perfect streak of Olympic opening game victories. In international competition overall, including the Olympics and International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship, the U.S. is 22-0-0-1-1 (W-OTW-L-OTL-T) against Finland.

SEMIFINALS RECORD: The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team is 3-0-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time in semifinal games at the Olympic Winter Games, all four games against Sweden. Its only loss came in a shootout on Feb. 17, 2006, the year in which the U.S. went on to claim the bronze medal. The U.S. holds a +16 goal differential in semifinal play at the Olympics, with 21 goals for and just five goals against. The 1998 tournament did not have a semifinal round; six teams competed in five round-robin games and the top four advanced to medal games. The top two seeds following the round robin battled for gold, while third and fourth seeds went for bronze.

YOUTH HOCKEY SPOTLIGHT: U.S. goalie Maddie Rooney's Olympic dream started when she was playing youth hockey in Andover, Minn. While there were several along the way that helped her get to where she is today, there's one coach in particular she'd like to recognize.

"My peewee and bantam coach Sean Molin really made an impression on me as a coach. He was always so encouraging and had a lot of wise hockey instruction to give, and he supported each of his players."
