COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey today announced the 23-player roster, including Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) and Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) who helped lead the U.S. to the gold medal in last year’s event, for the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team that will compete at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men's World Championship April 19-29 in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, Russia.
The United States is featured in Group A along with Belarus, Canada, Switzerland and Sweden and will play its round-robin portion of the schedule at Arena Metallurg. Group B consists of the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Russia and Slovakia.
The U.S. seeks its 11th gold medal in the event after capturing its tournament record 10th gold medal last year in Poprad and Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia. Team USA has earned 14 straight medals, including gold in seven of the past nine tournaments. Overall, the U.S. boasts 15 medals at the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship, the most of any country.
The U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team will be led by Seth Appert (Cottage Grove, Minn.), serving for the first time as head coach at the IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship.
