Six of 12 games decided in the shootout

THAT’S A WRAP: In the final day of competition at USA Hockey's 2018 Girls 15 National Player Development Camp, Team Green captured the top spot in the National Pool championship game, while Team Orange won the American Pool championship and Team Black earned the title in the Liberty Pool.

SHOOTOUT SHOWDOWNS: On the last day of the camp, teams competed in 20-minute games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Of the 12 games played in tournament pool play, six were decided by shootouts. In the Liberty Pool championship game, Team Black scored a shootout win over Team Royal as defender Keri Clougherty (Lynn, Mass.) posted the shootout winner. Clougherty skated with Assabet Valley at the 2018 USA Hockey Girls Tier I 14U Nationals this past April.

AMERICAN TITLE: In the American Pool championship game, another competitor with USA Hockey Girls Nationals experience, Team Orange forward Hamilton Doster (Greenwich, Conn.), scored the unassisted game-winner at 8:49 of the 20-minute contest. Team Orange goaltenders Grace Caligiuri (Windsor, Conn.) and Peyton Steinhebel (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) combined on the 1-0 shutout. Steinhebel played previously with the Bulldogs Hockey Club, a club that also boasts Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski among its alumni. Werenski was selected eighth overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and represented his club at the 2018 NHL All-Star Game in Tampa, Fla. He also served as captain of the bronze-medal winning U.S. National Junior Team that competed in the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland. The aforementioned Bulldogs Hockey Club was formed in 1962 and is still thriving today with a strong emphasis on USA Hockey’s American Development Model.

NATIONAL NOTES: In the National Pool championship game, Team Green defender Haley Winn (Rochester, N.Y.) scored the unassisted game-winning goal at 13:57. Team Green goalies Grace Campbell (Kensington, Md.) and Sydney Correa (Georgetown, Mass.) combined for the shutout between the pipes.

CAMP LEADERBOARD: Team Gold forward Gretchen Branton (Corcoran, Minn.) topped the point-scoring leaderboard at the Girls 15 Camp this week with six points (3G, 3A) in four games. It capped an impressive 2017-18 season for the soon-to-be-10th grader, who led Minnesota’s Wayzata High School in scoring with 30 points (18G, 12A) in her first varsity season. Team Green’s Haley Winn tied Branton for the camp’s goal-scoring lead with three goals. Team Light Blue forward Hannah Partigianoni (Cortland, N.Y.) led all campers with four assists. Earlier this year, she led the Syracuse Valley Eagles in scoring (3G, 1A in 3GP) at USA Hockey’s Girls Tier I 14U Nationals.

CAMP NOTES: USA Hockey’s Girls 15 Player Development Camp ran from July 7-11 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The camp provided training and development opportunities for 216 athletes in 2018.

EXTRACURRICULARS: Beth Sinson (Elm Grove, Wis.) plays the saxophone and has helped her dad build their family’s backyard hockey rink every year. She registered three assists for Team Royal at the Camp this year … Ellie Traggio (Sharon, Conn.) plays lacrosse and is also the president of her class at Indian Mountain School. Traggio posted two assists for Team Gold this week … Team Green’s Elena DiMagno (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Team Royal’s Abigail Flanagan (Lutz, Fla.) both play the ukulele … Team Maroon’s Kailey Niccum (Maple Plain, Minn.) was the youngest member of the 2017 U.S. women's deaf ice hockey team.
