Team Grey pulled off a late victory on Wednesday

Wednesday's action at the Boys Select 16 PDC saw three of five games have nine or more goals scored, including an 8-5 victory for Team Forest over Team Orange. Tanner Dickinson (Detroit, Mich.) of Team Forest and Isaac Novak (Waukesha, Wis.) of Team Orange each recorded a hat trick. Dickinson also added an assist and led all skaters with four points.

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY: Team Forest forward Matthew DeBoer (Madison, N.J.) is the son of current San Jose Sharks head coach, Peter DeBoer. After holding various coaching roles in the OHL from 1993-2008, the elder DeBoer earned his first NHL head-coaching gig with the Florida Panthers – a position which he held through 2011.  Subsequently, he was immediately hired and served as head coach of the New Jersey Devils for three-plus seasons, a stint highlighted by an appearance in the 2012 Stanley Cup Final. As DeBoer prepares to embark on his fourth season as bench boss for the Sharks, the 50-year-old will look to build off his recent success, as the club has clinched a playoff spot in each of his first three seasons at the helm, including a berth in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final.

DeBoer’s older brother, Jack, is also a familiar face within USA Hockey circles, as he just finished his second season with the National Team Development Program. Over the two campaigns, the 6-foot-3 forward competed for Team USA in the regular season as well as at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and 2018 IIHF Men's Under-18 World Championship. A previous attendee of the Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp, the 2000-born DeBoer recorded five points (1G, 4A) over as many games that week in 2015.

MULTI-DIMENSIONAL: Hockey isn’t the only sport at which Team Red’s Jake Ratzlaff (Rosemount, Minn.) excels. The 6-foot-2 defenseman is a three-sport athlete for Rosemount High School in Minnesota, as he plays football and baseball in addition to hockey.

ACCOLADES APLENTY: Similar to Team Kelly earlier in the week, Team Royal had the opportunity to hear from a gold medalist of the U.S. sled hockey squad on Wednesday in Declan Farmer. The 20-year-old has won gold with Team USA at both the 2014 and 2018 Paralympic Games and is also three-for-three in medaling at the World Championships – bringing home gold in 2015 as well as silver in 2013 and 2017. A current attendee of Princeton University, Farmer was first chosen for the U.S. team when he was just 14 years of age and received an ESPY Award from ESPN in 2014 as the Best Male Athlete with a Disability.

BUZZER BEATER: Tied at four and headed to the penalty kill with just over a minute to go in regulation, Team Grey pulled off perhaps the shock of the week, netting a shorthanded goal with less than one second remaining on the clock to earn a 5-4 victory over Team Royal. On the game-winning tally, Owen Michaels (Novi, Mich.) capitalized on a neutral zone turnover and successfully converted on the ensuing breakaway to seal the win.

Team Columbia and Team Grey, who each have nine points, will face off on Thursday night. Thursday marks the last day of games before the All-Star Game on Friday.
