Tuesday's action highlighted by four games with five or more goals

TUESDAY GAME NOTES: Team Purple scored five times in the first half and had six skaters finish with two points each en route to defeating Team Grey 7-3 … Liam Cox Smith (Minot, N.D.) collected three assists in Team Navy’s 4-2 win over Team Gold … Jackson Morehouse (Sewickly, Pa.) had a hand in both goals as Team Kelly edged Team Columbia 2-1 … Team Black goaltenders Owen Millward (Davis, Calif.) and Conor Callaghan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) combined on a 3-0 shutout of Team Orange … Cole Huckins (Fredericton, Maine) scored a pair of second-half goals in Team Forest’s 5-2 victory over Team Red.

ROSTER NEWS: Team Gold forward Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) missed Tuesday’s game with an injury.

THERE’S NO “I” IN TEAM: The 12 teams at USA Hockey’s Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp will compete throughout the week in a four-part team building competition away from the rink. Points will be awarded from 1-12 for each challenge, with the winning team at the end of the week receiving a catered meal from Chipotle. Challenges range from transporting a marble through pieces of PVC pipe over 30 yards, to completing three jigsaw puzzles with the pieces from each puzzle mixed together. The competition is a unique way to add another level of competition off the ice, while helping to identify players that can lead and work together in a team format.

SPEED RACER: The speed of hockey is nothing compared to another rush that Brendan Mullen (Grand Forks, N.D.) experiences regularly. Even though he just turned 15 in April, the Team Red forward also spends his summers racing sprint cars at River Cities Speedway in North Dakota. Mullen started racing go-karts at eight years old, and now it’s not uncommon for him to be competing against drivers twice his age at the legendary quarter-mile track known as “The Bullring.” In a race earlier this month, Mullen finished 10th in a field of 18 drivers, even moving up to seventh spot at one point. Veteran driver Wade Nygaard has been racing sprint cars for 28 seasons, and has high praise for the teenager. “Brendan is going to be awesome,” Nygaard told the Grand Forks Herald. “He’s 15 and he’s not afraid to gas it. He has all of us helping him. He listens really well; he’s a well-mannered, respectful young man, unlike a lot of kids these days. And he’s really smart. I’ll bet you, within two years, he’ll be winning races. Maybe even this year.”

FIFTEEN CANDLES: Team Kelly forward Benjamin Boren (Scarsdale, N.Y.) celebrated his 15th birthday on Tuesday. Also turning one year older this week were Team Purple defenseman Drew Tsakounis (Arlington, Va. – July 15) and Team White forward Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla. – July 15). Both Tsakounis (New Jersey Colonials) and Pastujov (Compuware) competed at USA Hockey’s 2018 Youth Tier I 14U Nationals this past April. Pastujov finished as Compuware’s second-leading scorer with eight points (4G, 4A) in six games en route to winning the national championship. Dylan Duke (Northville, Mich.) was the only Compuware point-getter to outproduce Pastujov, and he is also in attendance at USA Hockey’s Boys Select 15 PDC, skating as a forward with Team Gray.
