TUESDAY GAME NOTES: Powered by a Colby Saganiuk (Valencia, Pa.) hat trick, Team Navy easily handled Team Red 7-1 … After combining for nine first-half goals, the week’s first shootout saw Team Royal defeat Team Grey 6-5 … Jackson Borst (Edina, Minn.) had one goal and one assist in Team Black’s win over Team Gold … JP Turner (East Falmouth, Mass.) tallied twice in a losing effort for Team Kelly.

SCORING LEADER: Through two games, Liam Cox Smith (Minot, N.D.) of Team Navy leads all skaters in both points (6) and assists (5). Nikolai Dulak (Mahtomedi, Minn.) led the 2017 Boys Select 15 Camp in scoring with six points (5G, 1A) in three games, and Carson Riddle (Holly, Mich.) topped the charts with eight points (4G, 4A) in 2016.

THE LAMP LIGHTER: The spotlight seems to agree with Saganiuk, as shown by his four-point performance on Wednesday. Saganiuk was a member of the Pittsburgh Pens Elite squad that advanced to the 2018 USA Hockey Youth Tier I 14U national championship game, eventually losing 3-0 to Compuware. Saganiuk led the tournament with five goals in six games, highlighted by a two-goal performance against the Mid Fairfield Jr. Rangers where he scored the game-winner in overtime. The 15-year-old Saganiuk is the grandson of former NHLer Rocky Saganiuk, who collected 57 goals and 122 points in 259 career games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins from 1978-84.

DID YOU KNOW?: Despite his big day, Saganiuk still has some work to do to etch his name in the record books. Since 2000, the most total goals scored by a single player at the Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp is 10 by Gabe Guertler (Plantation, Fla.) in 2010. Guertler went on to score 23 goals with the USHL’s Fargo Force in 2012-13.

THEY COME IN ALL SIZES: The range of sizes among the 216 campers this week starts with the trio of 5-foot-3 forwards Joseph Delgreco (Grand Rapids, Minn.), Michael Salandra (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Jackson Roberts (Plano, Texas), and extends all the way up to 6-foot-5 goaltender Nicholas Von Kaufmann (Stouffville, Ont.). Sixteen of the 24 goalies in camp stand 6 feet or taller.

AMERICANS IN NHL DRAFT: The NHL is the ultimate goal for every player in camp, and USA Hockey continues to develop some of the world’s top talent. A total of 52 American players heard their names called at the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas, including six in the first round: forward Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo. – Ottawa, 4th overall) defenseman Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla. – Vancouver, 7th overall); forward Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass. – N.Y. Islanders, 11th overall); forward Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y. – Philadelphia, 14th overall); forward Jay O’Brien (Hingham, Mass. – Philadelphia, 19th overall); and defenseman K’Andre Miller (Minnetonka, Minn. – N.Y. Rangers, 22nd overall).

Of the 52 American players selected, 16 were regulars for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, including 12 who skated this past season with USA Hockey’s NTDP in Plymouth, Michigan. Former NHLer Dan Hinote was recently added as an NTDP associate coach, and will serve on the U.S. National Under-18 Men's Team staff during the 2018-19 season.
