Camp concludes with six playoff games

The 2018 USA Hockey Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp wrapped up with six playoff games on Friday morning at the Northtown Center in Amherst, N.Y.

ORANGE 10, GREY 7
Riley Brueck (Chesterfield, Mo.) fired three goals and added four assists, while Nicholas Tirch (Mars, Pa.) and Redmond Savage (Northville, Mich.) each chipped in four points for Team Orange, which scored five goals in each half. Jeremy Wilner (Rockville Center, N.Y.) led Team Grey with four assists.

PURPLE 3, NAVY 2
In a matchup of the camp’s top teams, it took a goal from William Renfrew (Fairbanks, Alaska) with 3:42 left in the second half to decide a winner as Team Purple remained undefeated with a 3-2 victory. Alexander Mickanin (Hopkinton, Mass.) made 18 saves for Team Navy in the first half and Paul Davey (Greenwich, Conn.) had two assists in the game.

COLUMBIA 4, BLACK 2
After giving up the game’s first goal, Team Columbia scored four straight goals before holding on to defeat Team Black. Luke Delzer (Rogers, Minn.) and Connor Pelc (Hamburg, N.Y.) each collected a pair of assists for Team Columbia, while Conor Callaghan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) stopped 21 of 23 shots for Team Black.

FOREST 4, ROYAL 3
Hometown kid Ty Broad (West Seneca, N.Y.) scored twice in the second half and added an assist as Team Forest held off a late surge from Team Royal to claim a one-goal victory. Paul Huglen (Roseau, Minn.) had two points for Team Royal.

RED 4, WHITE 2
Team Red scored four times in the second half, including a pair from Eddie Shepler (Livonia, Mich.), to double up Team White. Goaltender Thomas Heaney (Oceanport, N.J.) stopped all 20 shots sent his way in the first half for Team White.

GOLD 4, KELLY 2
Samuel Harris (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Tristan Elmhurst (Upper Arlington, Ohio) scored goals six seconds apart in the first half to give Team Gold a lead it would never relinquish. Noah Laba (Nortville, Mich.) and Damon Furuseth (Roseau, Minn.) were the Team Kelly marksmen.

CHECKING THE LEADERBOARD: On the strength of his seven-point game, Brueck finished as the leading scorer in camp with eight points (3G, 5A) in four games. Five players ended the week with seven points, including Samuel Lipkin (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) and his tournament-high seven assists. Matthew Brille (Bethesda, Md.) led all scorers with five goals. He competed earlier this year at USA Hockey’s Youth Tier I 14U Nationals.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Mickanin, who tended goal at USA Hockey’s Youth Tier I 14U Nationals in April, posted the camp’s best save percentage (.965) and his 1.20 GAA was tied for the lead with Andrew Pichora (Bethel Park, Pa.). Both goalies allowed just two goals in 100 minutes of action over four games.
