U.S. Schedule for 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship Set

U.S. Opens 2019 IIHF WJC Play in Victoria, B.C., Against Slovakia on Dec. 26

The International Ice Hockey Federation has announced the schedule for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will take place Dec. 26, 2018 - Jan. 5, 2019, in Vancouver and Victoria, Canada. The U.S., which has claimed medals (gold - 2017, bronze - 2016, 2018) in three-straight IIHF World Junior Championships for the first time, was placed in Group B alongside Finland, Kazakhstan, Slovakia and Sweden.

Team USA will begin preliminary-round play against Slovakia on Dec. 26 and have a day off before back-to-back games against Kazakhstan on Dec. 28 and Sweden on Dec. 29. The U.S. will then close its preliminary-round action against Finland on Dec. 31. All four of Team USA's preliminary round games will be played at Save On Memorial Centre in Victoria.

The quarterfinal round is scheduled for Jan. 2 and the semifinals will take place on Jan. 4. The bronze-medal and gold-medal games will be held on Jan. 5. All semifinal and medal games will be played at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

Finland

Last Meeting: The U.S. and Finland met a year ago at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, where the U.S. skated to a narrow 5-4 victory to close preliminary round play. 

World Junior History: The two teams, which have accounted for four of the last six gold medals (U.S. 2013, 2017; Finland 2014, 2016) in the tournament, have met 32 times previously. Kazakhstan

Last Meeting: The U.S. and Kazakhstan met in the preliminary round of the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship, where the U.S. claimed a 12-0 shutout.

World Junior Championship: This will be just the fifth meeting between the two teams. The U.S. holds a perfect 4-0 record, scoring a total of 34 goals while surrounding just four. Complete series game-by-game results

Slovakia

Last Meeting: The U.S. and Slovakia met in the preliminary round of the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, where the U.S. fell, 2-3.

Sweden

Last Meeting: A year ago, the U.S. and Sweden met in the semifinal of the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship where Sweden claimed a 4-2 victory.
