Drury nets game-winner; U.S. meets Canada tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET live on NHL Network

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Jack Drury (Winnetka, Ill.) scored the game-winner with 7:19 to play as Team USA earned a 2-1 victory over Finland here tonight in its penultimate game of the 2018 World Junior Summer Showcase.

Both teams traded chances to begin the game but neither could convert. Despite the U.S. holding control of play through the first half of the period, it entered intermission trailing Finland, 1-0, behind a goal at the 12:52 mark from Kristian Tanus.

In the middle frame, the U.S. was able to regain the control of play and generate a number of high-quality scoring chances. Its first chance came just over five minutes into the stanza when a passing play resulted in Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) firing a shot on goal that went off the right post before falling in the crease beneath Finnish netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

Moments later, Paul Cotter (Canton, Mich.) and Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) each saw their scoring attempts, including a two-on-one opportunity, sail just wide of goal as the U.S. continued to search for the equalizing goal.

With Finland shorthanded, the U.S. broke through at the 11:33 mark to even the score, 1-1. The tying goal came when Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) collected a loose puck in the slot and dished it back to Reilly Walsh (North Falmouth, Mass.) for a slap shot that went off of Mismash and past Luukonen.

In the final stanza, the U.S. nearly gained the lead at the 6:30 mark when Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) sent a pass through the crease to Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) for a chance that went off the side of the net.

Five minutes later, Drury gave the U.S. the go-ahead goal when he took a pass from Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) and wristed the puck into the top right corner.

Kyle Keyser (Coral Springs, Fla.), who started the game in goal for the U.S., finished with nine saves. Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) made nine saves in relief.

The U.S. returns to action tomorrow (Aug. 4) when it meets Canada in its final game. Puck drop at Sandman Centre is set for 2 p.m. local time (5 p.m. ET) and will be televised live in the U.S. on NHL Network.
