U.S. Defeats Hungary in Five Nations Pre-Tournament Game

Schweitzer leads the way with three points for Team USA

BUDAPEST, Hungary — The U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team defeated Hungary, 8-1, here today in a pre-tournament contest at Tuske Ice Hall prior to the 2018 Five Nations Tournament.

Nathan Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) led the way for Team USA with three assists and was named the U.S. Player of the Game, while Daniyal Dzhaniyev (Brooklyn. N.Y.) led all skaters with two goals.

Michael Cameron (Berwyn, Pa.) opened the scoring for the U.S., banging home his own rebound with assists from Jack Williams (Biddeford, Maine) and Ben Schoen (Maumee, Ohio).

The U.S. would lead for the entirety of the game following Cameron's goal, outshooting Hungary 54-14.

Gavin Fitzpatrick (Norwood, Mass.) and Colin Purcell (Shaker Heights, Ohio) each saw action between the pipes during the exhibition with Purcell stopping all seven shots he faced and Fitzpatrick making six saves on seven shots against.

In all, 12 skaters recorded points for the U.S., including Mackie Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Conn.), who registered one goal and added an assist.

The U.S. will play its second pre-tournament game on Monday (Aug. 13) when it meets Slovakia in Piestany, Slovakia. Puck drop at Easton Arena is set for 5 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET).
